The Fraser Fir

The Fraser fir was named for John Fraser who was a Scot botanist that explored the southern Appalachian Mountains during the late 18th century.

The Fraser fir far surpasses other trees when it comes to choosing a Christmas tree.  The combination of its shape, needle retention, dark blue-green color and enjoyable scent makes the Fraser fir a most popular Christmas tree species.

North Carolina produces the majority of Fraser fir Christmas trees that are grown each year, second only to Oregon. North Carolina is also responsible for over 18% of all real Christmas trees produced in the U.S.

Only a few areas have elevation high enough to support the growth of a Fraser fir, and in even fewer areas can the Fraser fir be found growing naturally.
