Christmas Tree Care
After choosing your own Christmas tree, it is important that it is cared for in a manner similar to that of fresh flowers. It should be placed in water immediately. If your Christmas tree has been cut for over twelve hours before you are able to get it in water, then you should make a fresh cut off the base of the tree trunk before placing the tree in a stand. The Christmas tree stand should be kept full of water as long as the Christmas tree is kept. It is not uncommon for a newly cut Christmas tree to need a gallon of water the first 24 hours and then several pints each day thereafter. Keeping the Christmas tree in water is the most important part of Christmas tree care.
Make sure that you place your Christmas tree in a cool area away from any source of warm air. Christmas trees should not be placed near stoves, fireplaces, heaters, heat vents or electronics. Christmas trees themselves do not cause fires, but they can be quickly ignited by another source. Always remember to turn off any lights on or around your Christmas tree when you are leaving home or going to bed.
